Most people walk into a med spa knowing they want something. They just don’t know what to ask for. Lip filler and Botox get talked about like they’re the same treatment. They aren’t. They do different jobs, on different parts of the face, with different results and different timelines.
Here’s how to tell which one you actually need.
What's the difference between lip filler and Botox?
Lip filler adds. Botox relaxes.
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed into the lips to build shape, volume and definition. It’s additive. You’re putting something in that wasn’t there before.
Botox works the opposite way. It softens the muscle movement that creates expression lines, so the skin above it stops creasing the way it used to. Nothing gets added. Movement gets calmed.
That’s the whole distinction. If your concern is volume or shape, you’re looking at filler. If your concern is lines from movement, you’re looking at Botox.
What does lip filler actually do?
It’s the treatment most people at VitaCell MedSpa in Winter Park come in asking about, and for good reason. Lip filler can:
• Add volume to lips that have thinned with age
• Balance a top and bottom lip that don’t match
• Define the border and the cupid’s bow
• Improve hydration and texture in the lip itself
• Soften fine vertical lines around the mouth
The result shows up immediately. There’s usually some swelling for the first day or two, and the final shape settles within about two weeks.
The thing nobody tells you: lip filler is not one look. The amount, the placement and the product all change the outcome. A subtle hydration result and a full, sculpted result are the same treatment with different plans behind them. That plan is the part that matters, and it’s why the consultation isn’t a formality.
How long does lip filler last?
Generally several months to a year, depending on the product used, how much was placed, and your own metabolism. Faster metabolisms break filler down quicker. Most people come back for a top-up rather than starting from zero.
What does Botox do, and where?
Botox targets the areas where repeated movement has worn lines into the skin. Forehead lines. The elevens between the brows. Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.
It doesn’t work instantly. Results start showing around day three to five and settle by two weeks. It typically lasts three to four months, then movement gradually returns.
Botox is preventative as well as corrective. If your lines are still faint and only appear when you move, treating early can slow how deeply they set in. If they’re already visible at rest, Botox softens them but may not erase them completely.
So which one do you need?
Ask yourself where the concern is.
Lips look thinner than they used to, uneven, or you want more definition? Lip filler.
Lines on your forehead, between your brows or around your eyes that deepen when you make expressions? Botox.
Both bothering you? A lot of clients do both. They target different areas and they don’t compete with each other. Plenty of treatment plans include both in the same visit.
Is it safe, and who's doing the injecting?
This is the question worth asking anywhere you go, and you should ask it before you book.
At VitaCell MedSpa, the medical director is an MD. The injector is a physician assistant, and all injectables are performed under MD supervision. Protocols are Florida health approved and the devices and products used are FDA approved.
A medical consultation is required before any medical procedure. That’s not a sales step. It’s where your facial structure, your goals and your medical history get reviewed so the plan fits you instead of a template.
If a provider is willing to inject you without a consultation, that’s your signal to leave.
How do you book?
Start with the consultation. Bring photos if you have a look in mind. Be honest about what’s bothering you and what you want to avoid, because the fastest way to end up with a result you don’t like is to stay vague about the result you do want.

Come in unsure. That’s normal. The point of the consult is to leave with a clear answer.
